Skoda Auto India has launched another variant of the Superb, powered by a 1800 cc TSI (turbocharged stratified injection) tech. Translated into human, that means the turbocharger has a high pressure, direct injection system.
The 1.8 TSI petrol engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.
The performance oriented Skoda Superb Petrol 1.8 TSI MT is priced at Rs. 1,781,035 Ex Maharashtra. That engine is an Volkwagen one, and also powers the Skoda Laura petrol and the Volkswagen Passat 1.8 TSI in India.
The four cylinder engine produces 160 bhp horsepower and 25 kgm of torque. For a petrol turbo, the engine is quite frugal. Acording to Skoda Auto, the Superb 1.8 TSI can offer a mileage (our sweet Indian term for fuel economy figures) of 14.14 km per liter according to ARAI tests.
Mr. Thomas Kuehl, Board Member, Sales & Marketing, SkodaAuto India said that the company is prouod to add the Skoda Superb 1.8 TSI to their lineup. He said that the ‘Intelligent Gear Change Indicator’ of the Superb 1.8 TSI recommends the most suitable gear to the driver on the Multifunction Display, and this can result in excellent fuel economy.
The New Skoda Superb in India has bagged 6 prestigious automotive awards in 2010.
The Superb 1.8 TSI MT is available in 5 colors – Black Magic, Rosso Brunello, Cappuccino Beige, Diamond Silver & Candy White.
The All New Superb is also available in India with the following engines: 1.8 TSI Automatic Transmission (Petrol), 2.0 TDI CR Automatic Transmission (Diesel) and the 3.6 V6 FSI 4×4 Automatic Transmission (Petrol). That’s four variants on the Superb. Spoilt for choices, aren’t we?
At its current price, the Superb 1.8 TSI offers an excellent alternative to the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry in India. in the already crowded Luxury Sedan segment. , It would be interesting to see how this car competes with the segment leader the Honda Accord, Volkswagen Passat, Toyota Camry and the BMW 3 series Corporate edition that has created a stir in the segment due to its pricing.
